The source of the best turmeric in the world is also one of the most beautiful.

The deep hue and slightly spicy taste of your favorite Golden Mylk Latte is made only with the best turmeric in the world - which also comes from one of the most beautiful places in the world. Every sip of Dr Smood’s Golden Mylk latte is crafted with red turmeric from certified organic farms in tropical lush Kauai, Hawaii.

Most of the world’s turmeric is actually grown in Southeast Asia; it’s an uncommon crop in North America, and turmeric can only be grown in few places. But olena (red turmeric), is native to the Hawaiian Islands, which produces most of the organic turmeric available in the United States. Hawaii, with its nutrient-rich volcanic soil, sunshine, and rain is one of them and by far best in the world. And studies from the Department of Agriculture (McCormick study) have shown that red Hawaiian turmeric have the highest levels of curcumin in the world, making it a natural choice for Dr Smood.

“An uncompromising effort to source ingredients in their purest forms. We strive to source from parts of the world where that ingredient is known to be a quality leader. Not only are our ingredients organic, they are as nature intended,” says Dan Schwartz, VP of Operations at Dr Smood who leads sourcing.

Hawaii is in a very unique location on the planet with the perfect conditions for growing turmeric. Kauai gets 77 inches of rain per year and a ton of sunny days all year with high humidity. Volcanic soil is extremely fertile because it contains well balanced levels of calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, and sulphur. These are all called “macronutrients,” and are essential for plant growth and survival. Our red turmeric is located on the north shore of Kauai, which contains 5 million year old volcanic soil, rich in all of these macronutrients. The rich soil, full sun, plenty of rain, plus the premium amendments that we use are the perfect combo for growing some of the best turmeric in the world.

Because of these lush growing conditions, Hawaiian red turmeric is by far the best tasting turmeric and is normally higher in curcumin content (the antioxidant that gives turmeric its deeply pigmented hue) compared to the bitter tasting yellow turmeric typically found in most cafes and health food stores.

The benefits of taking red turmeric//this healing spice daily are numerous:

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Reduces pain and arthritis

  • Improves brain function

  • Improves the immune system

  • Helps fight cancer

100% certified organic, free of pesticides, and non-GMO. Our red turmeric is “harvest to order” and ships within 24-hours of order. We only harvest the amount that was ordered for that week so it is always fresh.

To make sure you make the most out your turmeric filled Golden Mylk Latte, Dr. Etti Ben Zion, Partner and Head of Development at Dr Smood, suggests pairing it with black pepper. The curcumin compound isn’t easily absorbed by the body, she says, but a complex in pepper called piperine blocks your liver from filtering it too quickly. In short: piperine keeps the turmeric in your body longer so you can actually reap the benefits.
